Yorkshire Hospitality: Accommodation
The Yorkshire Coast/North York Moors
Run by Jackie and John, Sandsend Bay Cottages near Whitby are a fantastic place for a self-catering holiday or short break. Cosy, well equipped and immaculately clean, they’re a home from home for us: we have been going since 2010 and still love the place.

The Horseshoe Inn, Levisham is another favourite of ours. A cosy country pub with a real fire in the winter, comfortable rooms and really good food, it is tucked away in the moorland village of Levisham (accessible from the North Yorkshire Moors Heritage Railway as well as from the road!) about 17 miles from Whitby.

The Gallery B and B in Grosmont is also a great place to stay. For Coast to Coast walkers, it is a handy overnight stop and for steam train enthusiasts, it’s a minute’s walk to the station where there are plenty of steam trains running on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway during the season. It is above Chris Geall’s gallery and studio, where he creates amazing large oil paintings of the area, and the breakfasts are to die for!
