It’s thanks to Christine that we’re having a Reiki post today! She suggested that it would be a change, so here we are!
We plan to offer a limited number of mini Reiki sessions (10-15 minutes) at the end point of each day’s walking. We’ll be at Whitby on May 1st, Ravenscar on May 2nd, and Scarborough North Bay (by the Sands flats) on May 3rd. If you would like to come and receive a treatment, we hope to be there from around 3.15pm to 4.45pm but it does depend a bit on how the walking goes!
So, what is Reiki? It’s an energy healing modality, helping the client to rebalance and recharge their energy. It’s a bit like religion, in that there are many different types, beliefs and variations in how it works, but in the end, the client just accesses the Reiki they need! It originated in Japan and was developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. The Japanese style Reiki, which I practise and teach, remains close to its Buddhist origins and involves the student working on their Self, with the healing aspect coming out of this as a natural progression. In Japanese style Reiki, the practitioner simply holds a meditative space through which the client can access whatever they need: it is completely controlled by the client and the practitioner is facilitating. The Western style began in the 1940s and until relatively recently was the only style known outside Japan. This is more focused on the healing itself, often seeing it as something “given” to the client by the practitioner, and can include various other elements such as crystals, angels and drumming.
I’ll be offering Reiki treatments on all 3 days, with Kaye joining me on days 1 and 2, and Christine on day 3. Below, you can see our Reiki photos: I’m doing a Reiki treatment with Val, and Kaye is showing off her Reiki 2 certificate – as you can see, I taught her in her garden during the lockdown of 2020!
