10 miles in Wharfedale

It’s important to try and practise on consecutive days, so after Luci and I did our 8 miles yesterday, my friend Judith who’s training for the 3 Peaks and I did 10 miles today on a circular route from Ilkley. We climbed through the bluebell woods, where the flowers are beginning to emerge ready for the stunning carpet they will become soon. Up onto the moor, via Westmoor House Farm where the lambing shed was open for us to see a pair of newborn Dartmoor lambs along with some other recently born beauties, then we headed along Middleton Moor and down towards Nesfield. We took a path we’d not tried before across the fields to emerge close to West Hall and the footbridge over the Wharfe to Addingham. We decided to add a bit of distance, so we headed up past the Olicana holiday park a bit and back via the church orchard, ancient packhorse bridge and cat steps to the Joyful Deli for a brew! From there, it was an easy walk along the Dalesway to get back to Ilkley. We had a lovely day and the weather was dry, if cloudy! I’m relieved that I managed the 2 longish walks ok!
